GN Loves...tarte Cosmetics
Writer: Christina
tarte's Bronze Bitch Collection
Don't hate them because they're beautiful, hate them because
they're tan...and then beat 'em at their own game by scoring the same amazing
glow (with none of the sun damage)!
Hotel Heiress Mineral
Bronzer
You know the type... always showing off her bling, her bod, and that
all-important tawny glow. Maybe you're more conservative than that,
but it's fun to pretend once in a while. Sweep on this deep, sexy bronze
when you're feeling a little kittenish. Now that's hot!
Social Climber Moisturizing Dry
Oil Shimmer Spray
Its a tough climb to the top of the social ladder. Bouncing from grand
openings to premieres to after-parties - oh, the agony! Life is rough, but
that doesnt mean your skin should be. Moisturizing avocado & apricot
oils ensure that your polished physique will stay oh-so-touchable (never
greasy) with just a spritz of this fig-scented dry oil. Gold microflecks
add just a touch of tantalizing glimmer
Eyeliner
This super-creamy formula (it will NEVER tug at your delicate skin) lets
you smudge, shade and blend your way to an eye-makeup masterpiece! You may
be used to using eyeshadow for fun pops of color, but try these
fun eyeliners once and you'll be hooked (bonus: it will have much better
staying power than your shadows)! Experiment with more than one color at
a time since they're super soft and creamy and easy to blend! Each shade
is named after a famous piece of art. I tried - from left to right
on the picture:
- Olympia (pretty, matte lavender that looks great on light
and dark eyes alike): Manet shook up the art world in 1865 when he chose
to paint a real woman (flaws and all) rather than the more traditionally
accepted feminine ideal.
- Birth of Venus (shimmery olive green, perfect for giving
your eyes a sparkly pop): This Botticelli work circa 1485-86 represents the
classical Greek myth of Venus's birth from the sea, symbolizing beauty coming
into the world.)
- Ballet Dancers (fun, matte turquoise that looks especially
great on blue- and brown- eyed girls): Degas was attracted by theatrical
subjects - he would often study the ballet from the wings or orchestra stalls
during a performance. He tried to catch the dancers in poses as natural and
spontaneous as those in photographs.
Provocateur Powder
(FYI: The tarte girls even put together a helpful little
guide on their web site to aid you in deciding which Provocateur Powder
color is perfect for you.)
SPF8 Mineral Powder: Don't hide that
gorgeous skin under a thick layer of cakey powder. Simply send that sheen
undercover with a few dabs of whisperlight Provocateur Powder. The soft silicone
mineral based formula has natural light-reflecting properties-a shortcut
to that (formerly unattainable) "glowing complexion" we always read so much
about! Even better, it has SPF 8 to protect your precious face from UV damage,
and its hypoallergenic formula is compatible with all skin types! For girls
with oily or sensitive skin, you'll be glad to hear that the powder is oil-,
talc-, and fragrance-free.
Provocateur Compact: Put your Provocateur Powder refill in tarte's
sexy metallic purple compact with gemstone closure - it's so chic that you'll
never mind whipping it out for touch-ups. When you're not tossing it into
your handbag, you can keep it resting adorably at home in the corset-inspired
box.
Limited Edition Poptarte Trifold Compact...
For the girl who epitomizes style, this adorable eyeshadow pallet includes
eight chic full-sized eyeshadows in limited-edition spring '05 colors
that let you flirt with edginess (without actually going over!): deep shimmer
turquoise, iridescent deep peach, muted lime with gold sparkle, coppery gold,
light blue with gold sparkle, champagne, lilac with gold sparkle, and shimmery
raspberry. This is the cutest eyeshadow compact I've seen! tarte somehow
managed to fit EIGHT huge eyeshadows and a mirror into this pallet that
folds into the size of a regular powder compact (and then fastens with an
adorable little clip). Even if you're not the kind of girl to take your
eyeshadow with you when you go out, this compact is so cute you might
find yourself stashing it in your purse anyway!
Lipgloss
You have probably already heard about tarte's cute double-ended lipglosses,
but now they have a new feature - you can snap them apart to mix & match
(or just take one half with you). There are twenty gloss pairs (forty colors
total, half girl names and half boy names), and each lipgloss duo is named
after a famous couple in history,
so your favorite colors AND favorite
lovers are bound to be available in the bunch! You may even be able
to match your name with your crush's name! They're super-fun to snap apart
and mix and match. I tried the following colors, and my favorites are definitely
the "Samantha" side (pale cotton candy pink) of the 'Jake & Samantha'
duo, the "Baby" side (sheer peach-beige) of the 'Johnny & Baby' duo,
and the "Kevin" side (sheer tangerine) of the 'Winnie & Kevin' duo -
now I can have my two favorite tarte gloss colors snapped together and take
them with me wherever!
- Jake & Samantha (dark raspberry & pale cotton candy
pink): Ohhh, sexy girlfriend...yearning from afar? He may not know you yet,
but you'll be impossible to miss with lips so unforgettable. What's happenin',
hot stuff?
- Lois & Clark (sheer brick red & sheer copper): Every
gal thinks her guy is Superman. Hers really was. Make him fly a little higher
with lips that'll send him to the moon.
- Johnny & Baby (shimmery pinky-beige & sheer peach-beige):
Nobody puts baby in a corner. Maybe you can't mambo, but with these hot lips
you'll have the time of your life anyway.
- Danny & Sandy (sheer candy apple red & sparkly pink):
Everyone wants to play the bad girl sometimes. Transform yourself
from summer lovin' to greased lightnin' with just a touch of this gloss...soon
you'll be hopelessly devoted, too.
- Winnie & Kevin (sheer tangerine & sheer pink copper):
Holding hands, sharing milkshakes, butterflies in the stomach...nothing beats
puppy love. With this gloss, every kiss feels like the first one.
- Bonnie & Clyde (sheer deep red gloss & red sparkle):
This gun'totin' doll knew how to hang onto her man: keep your lips kissable
and never let him see you sweat. Love on the run never looked so good.

Cheek Stain
These water-based push up gel sticks are perfect for all skin types and contain
no oil, so they won't clog your pores. No skill required - just dab it on
and go. It lasts absolutely all day and is the most natural flush you can
possibly achieve with any blush. Plus, they smell absolutely DELICIOUS -
once you dab some of this on your cheeks, I promise you'll start craving
candy! Here are the shades I tried:
- Blushing Bride (smells like plum): a deep dusty plummy rose
that truly looks great on ANY skin tone - fair, dark, olive undertones, red
undertones.
- Flush (smells like raspberries): sheer berry-red. This color
is very cool and works best on skin with blue undertones.
- Tickled (smells like peach jello): sheer peach-red. This
color is warmer than Flush, but not totally warm - it's a true neutral
recommended for any skin tone, except girls with rosacea.
- Tipsy (smells like apricots): sheer peach with a touch of
shimmer. This one is better for fairer skin.
- Dollface (smells like strawberries and cream): sheer candy
pink with a touch of shimmer. Gives you the rosiest sweet cheeks; it's exactly
the color of a just-pinched cheek.
24/7 Lipsheer
These chapstick-like tubes make application a no-brainer and give you a
budge-proof lipstain with a kiss of color. Perfect to slip into your gym
or beach bag when you want a hint of color without looking overdone. Maureen,
CEO and creator of tarte Cosmetics, says, "In a pinch, the 24/7 lip sheers
make great cheek stains! They go on easy, blend well, and give a nice even
look." Plus, they are moisturizing, have more staying power than gloss, and
a more natural kissable look than lipstick! I tried, from left to right:
- Thursday (sheer light pink) - definitely one of my new favorite
shades, look how gorgeous the color is!
- Saturday (sheer deep red)
- Happy Hour (sheer coral)
