PEDICURE
MANICURE:
1.
Remove any nail polish with acetone or non-acetone polish remover. try: Pretty
Nails Instant Polish Remover.
2. With a medium-grit
file, file and shape all 10 nails to the desired length and shape (oval or
"squoval" nails are in).
3. Soak your hands
in warm water for about 5 minutes to soften the cuticles. Use a shower gel
or some kind of mild soap in the water. (Manicurists have special soaking
solutions for this.) try: Bath&Body Works' Shower Gel in Sun-Ripened
Raspberry
4. Remove your
hands from the water and towel dry.
5. Apply a cuticle
cream to the cuticles and massage in. try: Q-Tickles Nail&Cuticle Oil
in Lavender.
6.With an orange-wood
stick or cuticle pusher, gently push cuticles back (never cut live cuticle
skin! If you have a few ragged, dry tags, carefully remove them with manicure
scissors, making sure you're cutting only nonliving tissue).
7. If you have
flaky or rough hands, try a professional brand exfoliator or mask (available
at your salon or beauty supply store). Leave on hands for the recommended
time, then rinse and dry. try: Philosophy's Time On Your Hands
8. With a cleanser
or alcohol on a cotton ball, remove any lotion from the nails--if any oil
or lotion remain, the polish won't adhere well, and you'll get chipping.
9. Apply a thin
base coat (this protects nails from staining if your polish is a dark color
and also promotes better adhesion). Let dry.
10. Apply two coats
of color (drying between coats). try: Cover Girl NailSlicks in Grape Ice.
Then, apply a top coat and let dry. Be sure to apply a narrow swipe of polish
across the tip of the nails as well; this helps prevent chipping on the nail
tips. Use an orange-wood stick or a polish corrector pen to clean up any
polish mistakes.
