Use the
makeup color selectors to
determine your perfect makeup color prescription! When choosing a color,
keep the following options mind:
1. Light or Dark: Wearing paler,
lighter colors (nude, light pink, etc.) will create the illusion of a fuller
pout. Darker colors can make your lips appear smaller. If you have small
lips and want to make them look bigger, stay away from dark colors!
Remember there are light and dark versions of all colors. For example,
if you'd like to try red, there are several shades ranging from deep brick-red
to lighter apple-reds...for pink,
there are hot pinks and pale pinks...etc.
2. Bright or Muted: Each color can also be bright or muted
(different than light/dark!). If you want your lips to stand out, try a bright
shade such as coral , tangerine, or bright red. Muted colors are softer and
more subdued. They are typically closer to colors that would show up
on lips naturally. If you don't want your lip look to be too dramatic or
prominent, try a muted and more natural shade, such as nude or rose.
3. Warm/Cool: It definitely helps to know whether your undertones
are warm or cool, or else you might end up with a color that clashes with
your natural coloring. Look for lipstick colors that are either warm or cool
(whatever your skin undertones are), or just play it safe by using neutral
shades. Some brands, such as Covergirl, label their packaging so you know
whether a particular color is warm, cool, or neutral. If you're at a makeup
counter for a nice cosmetics company, you can ask the makeup artist for help.
Typically, yellow/orange/red undertones are warmer, while violet/blue/green
undertones are cooler.
