Pencil:
Beginner
Pencil is the most commonly used eyeliner. The easiest the use, it is found
in, you guessed it, pencil form. Pencils are easiest to smudge and apply,
but often enough, do not have as much staying power as cake and liquid
formulas. Try: Lancome's Le Crayon Khol ($17)
Rimmel's Special Eyes Eyeliner Pencil
($2)
Cake:
Intermediate
Cake eyeliner is applied similarly to the liquid eyeliner. It is applied
with a soft thin brush, but unlike liquid eyeliner, it is found in a container
much like eyeshadow. Often used wet, cake eyeliner stays on very well, but
it takes some time to apply. Practice a bit and using cake eyeliner should
become a staple in applying makeup. Cake eyeliner is often used by celebrities
for it gives extra staying power and still proves a natural look. Try: Benefit's Babe Cakes ($16)
Liquid:
Advanced
Liquid eyeliner has the most staying power with any other eyeliner formula,
but is harder to use and doesn't give as much as a natural look than other
formulas. Liquid eyeliner is applied with a soft, thin brush, and is usually
found in a tube. Use this once you have become comfortable with eyeliner. Try: Lancome's Liquid Eyeliner ($18)
